IRCSD Photo Release Guidelines

It is the district’s desire to share the achievements and recognition earned by students and staff with the broader community. This effort can be aided by the use of photos/videos showing students involved in classroom and school-related activities. Throughout the year, the Public Relations Department and Indian River staff may take photographs and video footage of students as they participate in academic, artistic, athletic or other school activities. These photographs and videos may appear in various district materials disseminated to the public, including yearbooks, the district website, newsletters, press releases, brochures, social media pages, calendars, newspapers and other channels deemed appropriate by the district. We, at times, may also publicize student work.

If you DO NOT want your child’s name/photo/work publicized for these purposes, you are asked to inform your child’s principal, in writing, before the first day of school and/or within ten days of registering. Your request that your child’s name/photo/work not be publicized for these purposes must be in writing, signed by the student’s parent, and must specify the student’s name and grade level. The note must be mailed to the building principal or sent to the building principal through our digital communications platform. All digital requests that your child’s name/photo/work not be publicized must contain the subject header of “Photo Opt-Out.”

Please note: If you choose to “opt-out” and provide a note for your child(ren) not to be photographed, your child(ren)’s accomplishments will not be showcased in any form. This includes all extracurricular activities and performances.

This Photo Release Policy and practice pertains solely to District generated and publicized images and information. It does not preclude individual attendees at District-related events from publicizing information concerning your student.

If you have any questions regarding this student photograph practice, please feel free to contact your child’s principal. Ref IRCSD Board Policy 5500.2-E
