Curriculum and Instruction
These are very exciting times in terms of curriculum and instruction in Indian River! We have a wide variety of superb instructional programs at Indian River, ranging from Universal Prekindergarten to Literacy Collaborative/Intermediate Balanced Literacy, to a variety of advanced college level credit courses at the high school level. Indian River prides itself on being able to meet the needs of our students and provide an appropriate and challenging education to all. Our goals for Curriculum and Instruction as a district are:
- IRCSD will assess and revise curriculum based on the needs of the individual learners using NYSED standards
- IRCSD will empower our students to be contributors through a curriculum that explores and builds positive experiences
- IRCSD will provide instructional opportunities that emphasize progress and growth.
The curriculum renewal process at Indian River is accomplished by Curriculum Councils and Committees which utilize Curriculum Mapping as a tool in this process. Predominant philosophies utilized in curriculum design at Indian River are: Constructivism, Understanding by Design, and Universal Design for Learning.
