Indian River Class Leaders 2020Indian River High School is proud to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2020. They are: Valedictorian, Shun Lei Win, daughter of Kyi Kyi Nyunt and Zaw Myint, from Evans Mills, New York; Salutatorian, Dennis Santos Sanchez, son of Hellen and Pedro Santos, from Calcium, New York, and Vocational Leader, Jaynne Alcock, daughter of Michelle and Joseph Alcock from Evans Mills, New York.

Shun Lei WinShun Lei Win has been named the 2020 Valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 97.46. Shun Lei has taken advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 19 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP testing. Shun Lei has been on the Honor Roll throughout her high school career. She has received numerous academic achievements and accolades in her advanced classes as well as being selected for the Rochester Bausch & Lomb Scholarship in her junior year. She received the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award this year.
Shun Lei is extremely active in our school community. As a freshman, Shun Lei was involved in many clubs and activities including SADD, Adventure Club, Drama Club and was President of the Human Rights Club. In her sophomore year, she continued as President of the Human Rights Club and remained active in SADD, Adventure Club, and Drama Club. She also added Student Council, Sources of Strength and National Honor Society to her list of activities. As a junior, she remained active in these groups and was named Vice President of the National Honor Society and was inducted into the Thespian Honor Society. This year, Shun Lei continued as President of the Human Rights Club and was named President of the National Honor Society. She is Co-Treasurer of the Drama Club and Thespian Honor Society and she remains active in SADD. Shun Lei has been a member of Girls’ Varsity Track, Orchestra, and Chorus throughout her high school career. She has performed solos for NYSSMA and was selected for Area All State during her sophomore, junior, and senior years. Shun Lei has had numerous roles in our plays and musicals such as Hairspray, Little Mermaid, Who Will Carry the Word, Mamma Mia!, Shakespeare’s Ladies, Peter and the StarCatcher, and our upcoming musical, Legally Blonde.

Shun Lei not only excels in school, but she also generously donates her time and energy to her community. She has participated in the First AIDS Frost Walk, Relay for Life activities, the Ugly Sweater Run and volunteers at the McEwen Library. Shun Lei also helps out at spaghetti dinners, Arts Celebration Day, Christmas gift wrapping, Christmas caroling, and plays violin for the Musical Mission each year.

Shun Lei has been accepted at University at Buffalo and Stony Brook University. She is waiting for responses from NYU, Cornell and University of Rochester prior to making a decision.

Shun Lei, you have proven yourself to be a very talented individual who has the capacity to do great things with your life. Continue to make us proud as you face new challenges and adventures! We wish you all the best!
 
Dennis Santos SanchezDennis Santos Sanchez has been named the 2020 Salutatorian with a cumulative grade point average of 97.32. Dennis has taken advanced classes throughout his high school career and will graduate with 20 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP testing. Dennis was inducted into the National Honor Society in tenth grade and has maintained Honor Roll throughout his high school career.

Dennis is active in Math Club and Science Club this year. He has received several academic awards in math, history and Latin. He scored Maxima Cum Laude on the National Latin Exam in his sophomore year and Summa Cum Laude in his junior year. Dennis is active in Junior Classical League and currently holds the title of President. He has also participated in Track and Soccer.

Dennis is also committed to helping out his community. The American Legion selected Dennis as one of their Boys’ State participants last summer. Dennis has volunteered at Relay for Life activities and USO events for the past two years. During the summer months, Dennis stays active in his community mowing lawns.

Dennis has already been accepted to Clarkson University, University of Connecticut, and Rochester Institute of Technology . He is awaiting responses from Cornell, and Stanford prior to making his final decision.

Jaynne AlcockJaynne Alcock has been named Vocational Leader with a cumulative grade point average of 91.46. Jaynne attends Charles H. Bohlen Technical Center for Veterinary Practices where she has a cumulative GPA of 92. Jaynne has received several Credit and Honor Roll Awards. She has been a member of the National Honor Society and is very active in our sports programs. Jaynne was active in softball as a freshman. She continues to be active each year in Soccer, Basketball, and Track.

Jaynne volunteered in Relay for Life as a sophomore and Earth Day at Thompson Park Zoo during her junior year. She has been active in Sprouts Soccer for the past two years.

Jaynne plans to attend SUNY Canton in the fall. We know you will be successful in all your endeavors Jaynne. Best of luck to you!
