Welcome Back to School!

Welcome Back to School!Good afternoon/evening this is Mary Anne Dobmeier, Superintendent of the Indian River Central School District. We hope you and your family have enjoyed a safe and restful labor day weekend.

This is a friendly reminder that the first day of school for students in cohort A is tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8th. All students in cohort Z will attend their first day of school on Thursday, September 10th. Virtual learning on Wednesday is not likely to begin in earnest until next week, though some of our secondary teachers have already reached out to students with informal ideas for this Wednesday.

The amazing IRCSD faculty and staff have been working extremely hard in preparation for the first day of school. Our school principals and offices have sent letters or other reminders with important information through ParentSquare and our Social Media outlets. If you have not done so already, please sign up for ParentSquare, as this is the easiest and most effective way to manage school-home communication.

Additionally, I wanted to provide you with a few critical reminders:
  • Please monitor and pay attention to the health of your child and do not send them to school if they are sick. This includes any fever above 100 degrees, a persistent cough or runny nose, or any form of flu or virus-related symptoms.
  • For the in-school days, please complete the simple CDC-approved health screening tool each morning on ParentSquare. This partnership between home and school is an important step each school day.
  • Students are absolutely required to wear a mask when they are on the school bus and anytime when social distancing cannot be maintained. This will include times of movement or transition. Students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own masks from home. However, Indian River is ready and able to provide a reusable or disposable mask to your child, if needed.
  • Please remind your child that social distancing must be practiced at all times, so please follow hallway directional signs, spacing markers, and to keep a safe distance at bus stops, in hallways, and at any time they are moving through the school building.
  • Good hand hygiene is very important. Students will wash their hands multiple times throughout the school day and should maintain these habits at all times.
  • (Our fabulous staff will also instruct and reinforce these expectations each day.)

Regarding transportation, please be patient with us for the first few days of school. The pickup and drop off times on the postcard you received are our best estimate, but remember it could be a little earlier or later for the first few days as we establish a routine and manage back-to-school traffic changes. For those driving your children to school...thank you for your assistance and for following the directions for drop off and pick up at our schools.

Indian River Central will continue to provide healthy food options for our students, even on days they cannot be physically present in schools. Additional information regarding changes in our food service program will be shared over the coming days, so please stay tuned!

Lastly, please know that we are taking the return of your children very seriously. The health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, and our school community are our top priorities. Many members of our school community have worked very hard to prepare for the opening of schools. We are ready! We cannot wait to see our students again. We thank you for your support and trust over the past several months.

Should you have any questions or concerns, we ask that you please contact your child’s school.

We have and will continue to work through this together.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay Warrior Strong!
