A Message from Superintendent Dobmeier: Outdoor Masking at IRCSDTo the Members of the Indian River Community,

As you are likely aware, Governor Cuomo indicated yesterday, in consultation with the CDC, that masks would not be required to be worn outdoors at school provided that the local school district chose to implement such guidance. Masks must continue to be worn inside all IRCSD school buildings, regardless of vaccination status. (Extra mask breaks are provided to accommodate the increase in temperatures.)

The NYS Department of Health issued the following statement last evening based on what has been documented in the updated re-opening guidance:

Effective June 7, 2021, face masks are not required to be worn outdoors on school grounds, including during outdoor school sports. No student, teacher, staff member, or visitor may be prevented from wearing an acceptable face mask voluntarily on school grounds.

Based on this updated guidance and in consultation with our medical director, effective today, June 8, 2021, mask wearing is optional outdoors for IRCSD students, staff, and community members. Again, masks must continue to be worn inside school buildings in accordance with IRCSD’s reopening guidelines through the remainder of the school year.

Mary Anne Dobmeier
Indian River Central School Superintendent
