Indian River One Million Pennies Project Raises $10K for Jefferson County SPCA

Indian River Superintendent Mary Anne Dobmeier, Assistant Superintendent Troy Decker, Social Studies Coach Vicki McCullouch and Upstate National Bank representative Shannon Smith presented a check for ten thousand dollars to Jefferson County SPCA employees Lindsay Hess, Lexi Norris, Katelyn Drohan, and Dex the Great Dane on Wednesday, October 14, 2020.  The check represents the over one million pennies collected by students at Indian River Central School District during the previous school year as part of the 1 Million Pennies Project. The collection began on February 3, 2020, with staff and students anticipating penny collection to take several months in order to reach the lofty goal. However, students met the one million penny goal in just 33 days, completing the project just before the COVID-19 school shutdown in March. Philadelphia Primary School collected the most pennies per student in the district, but there was a large outpouring of support from the entire community and each of the other schools in the district as well.

Thank you to the IRCSD community for this tremendous outpouring of support!
