February 1, 2021 Athletics Update: A Message from Superintendent Dobmeier
Posted on 02/01/2021
We are pleased to announce that the Indian River Central School District, working collaboratively with Jefferson County Public Health and the districts in Jefferson County, has devised and agreed to the attached plan in order to offer varsity-level high risk winter sports (basketball, competitive cheer, volleyball and wrestling).
The District, through its athletic department, will insist on several key aspects in order for a safe plan to return to sports, including: mandatory face coverings, health screening, cleaning/sanitizing protocols, as well as various practice density, frequency and time length considerations. A detailed ‘return to play checklist’ will be used by the athletic department and all coaches to plan for and implement a safe return to high-risk sports.
As stated in the letter, varsity practice sessions for the listed sports will begin on Monday, February 8th. Further information will be forthcoming from Mr. Alexander, HPERA Director and individual coaches. Intramural program opportunities will continue for many modified and JV sports as well as a variety of extracurricular activities.
Potential rescheduled Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 athletic opportunities will be addressed at a later time and will be based upon experiences with this shortened winter season. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Mary Anne Dobmeier, Superintendent of Schools
