Indian River Class Leaders 2018

Indian River High School is proud to announce the academic leaders of the Class of 2018.  They are: Valedictorian, Mallory Bridge, daughter of Shaun and Jennifer Bridge of Antwerp; Salutatorian, Justin Nadal, son of Vivian Nadal-Ortiz from Philadelphia; and Vocational Leader, Ethan Ruttan, son of Chad and Tolly Ruttan from Philadelphia.


Mallory Bridge has been named the 2018 Valedictorian with a cumulative grade point average of 98.88.  Mallory has taken advanced classes throughout her high school career and will graduate with 26 college credits through Syracuse University, University at Albany and Jefferson Community College with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP testing.    Mallory has been on the honor roll throughout her high school career and has received several academic achievements and accolades in her advanced classes. She was the recipient of the Empire Girl’s State Citizen Award last year and the DAR Good Citizen Award this year.  Mallory was also a 7News Academic All-Star recipient this year.


Mallory is very active in our school community.  She has been a member of National Honor Society since 10thGrade.  She has been a member of the Junior Classical League (JCL) since 9th Grade.  She has served as secretary of JCL for two years and received several awards in competitions.  She has also been a member of the S.A.D.D. club and Science-Adventure club since 10th Grade.  Mallory was a member of the Indian River tennis team during her sophomore year.  Mallory has been especially active in our Performing Arts Department. She has been a member of Orchestra and is currently 1st Chair Viola.  She has been the president of Stage Crew for the past two years where she was an active participant in several performances by serving as costume manager, backstage manager, and ticket booth operator.  During her junior year, Mallory was a member of the Thespian Honor Society. She has dedicated many hours to the Robotics Team which placed first place at the FIRST Robotics competition. Mallory has been the only student representative on the District’s Health and Wellness Committee since her Junior Year.


Mallory is active in her community as well.  She volunteered for many years at Antwerp Primary, Operation Restore Antwerp Program, and the Backpack Run.  Mallory has been accepted at Carnegie Mellon University, Clarkson University, and Rochester Institute of Technology with a renewable Presidential Scholarship in the amount of $16,000.  Mallory, we all believe you have a bright future ahead of you. Justin Nadal has been named Salutatorian with a cumulative grade point average of 96.74.  Justin has taken advanced classes throughout his high school career and will graduate with 12 college credits through Syracuse University and Jefferson Community College with the potential of earning extra credits through CLEP testing.  He has been a member of National Honor Society since tenth grade and has maintained honor roll throughout his high school career.


Justin has been extremely active in our music department.  He has been in the Drama Club for the past three years where he is currently Vice President.  He has participated in numerous musicals and been active in Stage Crew. He is also in Chorus and was selected to participate in Bi-County Chorus as well as Area All-State Chorus several times.   He has been a member of the International Thespian Society since tenth grade. Justin has participated in Orchestra and Jazz Rock throughout his high school career and was selected to participate in Bi-County Select Vocal Ensemble in his junior year.  During Justin’s senior year he participated in Conference All-State Mixed Chorus and was selected as the 7News Arts All-Star.


Justin is active in his community as well.  He has volunteered at the Philadelphia Food Pantry, Jefferson County SPCA, and Read-Aloud Day.  He has been accepted to Niagara University and SUNY Fredonia with the President’s Award for Excellence.  Justin, you have a bright future ahead of you. Ethan Ruttan has been named Vocational Leader with a cumulative grade point average of 91.38.  Ethan attends Charles H. Bohlen Technical Center for Welding where he has a cumulative GPA of 95.  He has participated in the Skills USA Regional Welding Competition for the past two years and placed first this year. He will be moving on to the Skills USA State Welding competition in April.  


Ethan was a member of the Trap Shooting Team.  He has also participated in FFA since his sophomore year, and he participated in the Ag Mechanics Competition last year. During his junior year, he placed 2nd in sectionals for wrestling.  


Ethan not only strives to do well with his academics, but he also works hard outside of school.  He has spent time working on farms as well has other side jobs. He serves his church community by being an active member of his Youth Group.  Ethan, we know you will be successful in all your endeavors. Best of luck to you!
