Programs

The theatre programs offered at Indian River High School takes place during the school day as well as after school hours. A full time theatre teacher teaches six courses. If students complete a sequence of all six theatre courses, they can graduate with a Regents Endorsed Diploma in Theatre. Students can also participate in several productions throughout the school year: up to 2 main stage drama club productions, one musical, and a murder mystery dinner theatre.

The Drama Club is a student run club with an advisor overseeing the club. The drama club supports the community by walking in the annual First Frost AIDS Walk, collecting donations for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS, donating to the Holiday Angel program, acting and applying stage makeup for SADD's Mock Car Accident. The drama club also goes on numerous field trips to listen to guest artists and watch live theatre.

The Stage Crew is a student club with the direct oversight of the theatre technician. Students learn how to run the backstage of theatre. They are exposed to the light board, sound board, fly rail, lights, costumes, makeup, set construction, etc. Students can choose to only attend meetings and/or sign up to work a concert.

Each spring the music, visual art, and theatre students stay in New York City for the weekend. Students have the opportunity to take a Broadway Theatre workshop, walk through museums, and attend two Broadway shows.

Indian River belongs to the International Thespian Society.
